It was obvious, inevitable—we should have seen it coming. Our gaze glanced over the festering fissure in the bark. We yearned yonder, pulled harder toward the already vivid backdrop, beckoned for more growth. The weakness did its best to withstand the weight of each additional branch. Soon it will break, be set free. Death of certain dreams, for us to liven the parts of our whole slowly suffering in shadow.
